Hypo Iron Toner

Hypo Iron toned imageWARNING: this is a VERY bizarre toner! Expect to see solarization effects that change with time.
Years later the print will look different!

Solution A:

30 grams of potassium ferricyanide
30 grams of potassium bromide
water to make one liter (or quart)

Solution B:

To one quart or liter of totally exhausted film strength rapid fixer add several balls of fine grease-free steel wool and let sit for a few weeks to one month. Filter and set aside as your Solution B. Variations are to use paper strength fixer or use copper wool or combination of steel and copper, etc.

To Use:

Bleach print in solution A, wash and tone in solution B and wash.

Variations:

Alternative to using fixer to create the toner (solution B):

one liter or quart of water 1 tablespoon of Irontone plant food (93% ferrous sulfate)
2 ounces or 60ml of concentrated hydrochloric acid (liquid swimming pool acid)
